MISSION STATEMENT

THE DAWN... have been given their own unique way of spreading the Gospel, through out-reach in both the Secular and Christian domain. Using the word and their own testimonies, they perform praise and worship that cuts through the barriers that have traditionally been out of bounds for Christian bands.

The manifesto of their mission has not changed from that of Paul, (one of the greatest Apostle’s of Christ), but is a continuation of the book of Acts…to reach the lost and proclaim the Good News.

The Dawn’s name is taken from Matthew 4:16…. taking the light of the word of God to all four corners of the world expressed through music, reaching the lost and inspiring Christians.

Who are Vince & Sue?
Sue: Vince & Sue are the two Bods that front the Dawn. We're the main vocalists, songwriters, well you do everything, don't you, Vince really... musician, producer...what else?
Vince: That's pretty much it...
Sue: And I'm his wife.
Vince: The Dawn, obviously the two of us. We both write and we both do vocals. Sue's the main vocalist and I come in more with backing vocals. The good thing about us at the moment is that we're able to change. Because what we're doing isn't set in stone, we've got the freedom to change styles, which we're quite looking forward to.

Why did you start The Dawn?
Sue: I think it was a natural progression, because we'd started song writing together. The Dawn came after we got married really.
Vince: Yeah, we were about two tracks in and we were just about to start getting together to do another two tracks and then we had to cool down actually. We decided to put it on hold because, obviously we were talking about a personal relationship starting.

Where did you get the name from?
Sue: We were driving to church one Sunday. We were getting through the album with the tracks and we thought...hey... we've gotta think of a name. So we started firing off some names and then I came up with The Dawn.
Vince: I thought it was a brilliant name because there were about three or four other names knocking around at the time... But The Dawn stuck with me.
Sue: And then it just kept coming back to us... and then we got confirmation through this scripture.

Where did you two first meet?
Vince: We met at church. In fact we met on the very first day that I went to church. Sue was already there. I met Sue in the café. We actually sat opposite each other. We didn't really pay much attention then at the time. But that's where we first met.
Sue: What ...you didn't pay attention to me?
Vince: No...
Sue: So now you tell me... What was it my short hair?

Where did you go on your first date?
Sue: Our first official date happened when we realised that God was putting us together and Vince had finally spoken out... It took him ages. You took me to a restaurant.
Vince: Yeah, we went to a nice Thai restaurant.
Sue: We had the whole restaurant to ourselves…as we went in quite early. But actually that meal was the start of planning a wedding and everything wasn't it? It's always around a meal with Vince...
Vince: Next!!!!!

Where did Vince propose to you?
Vince: I was trying to find somewhere different, but all the places I thought were different Sue had already been to or had heard stories of people proposing in these various places!
Sue: You were going to ask me if I was available that weekend. You said you were going to take me to Paris..?
Vince: That was to throw you! No we weren't going to go to Paris, because that would have been the obvious one. It was a lovely French restaurant, on the river at Kingston. It was a sunny evening and we had a table outside.
Sue: But how did you do it?...How did you propose? ...or shall I tell it ...In a banoffi pie!! He snuck away and had a chat to the waiters.
Vince: Yeah... The ring was in a banoffi pie.
Sue: It was very nice and I was very embarrassed.

Tell us about the First Album
Sue: The House of Zion. I got the name again didn't I?
Vince: You did. You're very good with names.
Sue: The name came through in Isaiah. The Lord gave me four things that day and I read them off to Vince and he said, yeah, House of Zion! Zion obviously means Christian Church family... God's people.
Vince: The initial start was purely led by the Spirit of God. One of the things we were conscious of was that we didn't want it to be perceived as a normal praise and worship album. We wanted something that was slightly more edgy, more reliant on testimonies and also we wanted it to talk to Non Christian as much as Christians.
Sue: The vision of The Dawn is to hit both. The sound is very mainstream. People who are not Christians have just really loved the sound and even though some of the tracks are in your face they have just received the Album.

What are you hoping for in Year One?
Vince: We always knew that recording the album wouldn't be an issue. We knew that whatever happened, come the day we had set aside to finish it, the album would be finished then. This is totally unchartered territory now. We are waiting to see what God is going to do with this and the doors He is going to open. We are just taking it to the Lord each day and asking Him to guide it.

What were your inspirations?
Sue: God!! He is my only inspiration in this. If someone had told me in my past life you are going to be singing about God I would have said you're having a laugh aren't you because I was used to working in bands and just singing about what I knew in the World... definitely not God. All my inspirations are now from Him.

What is the Vision behind The Dawn?
Sue: The Vision behind The Dawn is both reaching the Lost and also encouraging fellow Christians to keep walking the walk and to be on fire for Christ. The Word we got is from Matthew 4:16 "The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." We came from the darkness and the Lord God brought us into the Light!!
